Furnace Air Filters
If your home or office has a furnace it is important that it be cleaned. Most furnace air filters are permanent filters which basically mean all that is required is that they are regularly cleaned.
For home furnaces it is recommended that the furnace be cleaned at least three times a year depending on where you live. For a commercial furnace you may have to clean them more often especially if it is located in an area that is industrialised and polluted.
To clean furnace air filters at home all you will have to do is to take out the filter and use your garden hose and run the water over it. Once clean you should allow the filter to dry before you reinstall it.
For commercial furnaces many people will use a non toxic spray cleaner to clean the filter and then use a hose to rinse both sides with water. Allow the filters to dry and then reinstall them.
It is important that you clean your furnace air filters and there are two main reasons why. Firstly by cleaning the filters you will be preventing any airflow loss that may occur in your air system. Secondly many filters are electrostatic in make and thus are able to attract particles via their opposing charge.
This ability will diminish as surface area of the filter becomes increasingly covered with particles. The efficiency of furnace air filters is reduced mainly by the build up of larger particles. The smaller particles will often pass through the filter.
It is important that you make it a regular thing to clean your furnace air filters to keep fresh air flowing and to prevent and respiratory problem. Always use the right cleaner if one is required and stay away from those toxic cleaners as they can cause more problems than they will solve.
